The tour introduced below is a trip enjoying Aomori prefecture at the northernmost tip of the Tohoku region. After the rice paddies are sown in June and the rice grows greener with every passing day, you’ll be able to enjoy the world famous rice paddy art of the town of Inakadate in Hirosaki (Aomori Pref.)
Using the rice paddy as the canvas, they use 7 different types of rice to create a humongous picture. In the past, they’ve had a Star Wars theme and even the Mona Lisa on the field. This year’s theme is Shin Godzilla and the samurai from “Sanadamaru”.
This theme is the two famous samurai, Mitsunari Ishida and Masayuki Sanada, from the TV series “Sanadamaru”. The rice paddy art can be seen from June till October, and it’s best seen when the green grows richer during the summer, or it becomes lighter by contrast at the end of September.
After seeing the rice paddy art, why not try picking up a real samurai sword at “Katana no An”, a store in the same town of Inakadate. It’s much heavier than it looks, and you’re sure to be overwhelmed by the beauty of the Japanese samurai sword.
